It was the girls who brought home the silverware from the AMI Central Primary Schools Tournament yesterday.  Held in Palmerston North, the winners of the Taranaki Primary Schools Tournament were invited to play the winners from the other 6 provinces.  12 year old HIghlands Intermediate student Louise Waite won the Girls Open beating Ruby Lawler (Wellington) 4-2 4-1.  On her way to the final the fourth seeded Waite knocked out the number one seed Georgia Atkinson of Wairarapa 5-4 1-4 10-5.  Oakura Primary's Poppy Mitchell won the Consolation for the Girls year 6 and under.  Her opponent for the final was Hutt Valley's Shaunee Mahuika with Mitchell winning the match 4-1 4-1.    Ellen O'Byrne of Highlands Intermediate reached the Semi-finals of the Intermediate Girls with a win over Manawatu's Gorgi Van Lienen 4-2 0-4 10-4 only to lose to another Manawatu representative Rebekah Chamberlain 4-2 4-1.

 

The boys had a tough day at the office.  Fourth seeded Hawera Intermediate Student Hamish Mead lost in the first round to Wellington's Joshua Snowdon-Poole 2-4 4-1 10-8 in the Boys Open and Highland Intermediate's Callum Sutherland (seeded seconded in the Intermediate Boys) also lost in the first round to Hutt Valley's Finlay Hall 4-1 1-4 14-12.  Caleb Fleming of Woodleigh School progressed to the Semi-finals only to lose his match against first seeded Isaac Becroft of Hutt Valley 4-0 4-0.
