In Soffe Cup
interclub tennis on Saturday, Hooker Pacific Pukekura defeated
Stratford/Midhirst 13-3 at Pukekura after Stratford/MIdhirst could only
field two women.
The men's
singles were shared after Stratford took out the top two matches, Gavin
Phelan defeated Ben Aves 3/6 6/3 7/6 and Michael O'Sullivan beat Meto
Snegirev 6/4, 7/5. Pukekura won the No 3 and 4 matches with Andy Erb and
Kerry Dwyer easily accounting for Grant Kite and Michael Short. The
Stratford pairing won their doubles against Snegirev and Dwyer.
In the women's
singles Linda Reid only conceded two games and Donna Thorne none against Min
Zimmerman and Liz O'Sullivan.
Waiwaka had
their top two men, Stuart Wood and Jordan Stayt back in their game against
AWE Huatoki but could only field three women with No 3 Alison Chamberlain
unavailble( playing in the under 16 rep team ).
Huatokis'
Jonathan Ussher beat Wood 6-2, 6-1 and Neil Bridgeman defeated Stayt 7-5,
6-1. Waiwaka' s no 3 and 4 David Innes and David Chamberlain evened the
score by beating Rakesh and Amrit Rai.
The women's
singles were easy wins for Huatoki and the match was almost won by then,
with Huatoki winning 13-3.
