Oakura booked a place in next week's Soffe Cup final with a 10-6 win over
Sandfords Manaia at Oakura on Saturday. It is the first time Oakura have
been in the final; they were beaten by Huatoki last season after a countback
when the sides drew 8-8. The singles were drawn 4-4 after Oakura women
won all but the top match. Sue Oldfield beat Ginny Death 6-0 6-2 in the No 2
match, at No 3 Miaana Walden beat Irene Cruikshank 7-6 2-6 7-6 while Becky
Bruckner beat Helen Johnston 6-3 6-3. Oakura won the No 4 men's
singles with Steve Novak beating Michael Gates 6-2 1-6 7-6. Manaia 's
singles wins were by No 1 Nicole Koch who beat Alesha Ford 6-4 6-1.
The top three men won easily Cameron Koch, Jordan Fleming and Jason Mills
beat Graeme Mitchell, John Hardie Boys and Aaron Hine respectively.
Oakura jumped
to a 7-5 win after the doubles by claiming both women's matches and the top
men's match. Mitchell and Hardie Boys beat Koch and Gates in the third
set tiebreaker. Manaia's Mills and Fleming beat Hine and Novak.
In the mixed doubles Oakura won 3 matches to seal the win.
Central Finance
Rotokare will defend their title at home next week after a dominant 12-4 win
over Hooker Pacific Pukekura at Rotokare. The home side led 5-3 after the
singles, winning all but the top men's match and two women's matches.
No 2 Chris Popata beat Dennis Reid in three sets, while Mike Roberts and
Greg Hareb beat Meto Snegirev and Callum Old easily. Rotokare's No 2
Kelly Toa beat Donna Thorne 6-2 7-5 and No 3 Karen Cranston beat Kirsten
Adam in three sets. Pukekura's win's were by Mike Fleming who beat Ben
Pollard 6-3 6-1, Linda Reid who beat Catherine Stevenson 6-1 6-3 and
Jeanette Harding who beat Beccie Atkins in three sets. Rotokare were
superior in the doubles, only dropping one match, the top mixed when Fleming
and Reid defeated Pollard and Atkins 9-7.
In the Wilson
Trophy Waiwaka beat Huatoki 14-2 and Ecolab Manaia beat Stratford 9-7 to win
promotion to the Soffe Cup next season. They will contest the final at
Waiwaka next week.
In the Sumpter
Trophy, Waitara beat Manaia 13-3 and Inglewood beat Rotokare on count back
to win promotion to the Wilson Trophy next season. Waitara will host the
final next week.
