Taranaki is the
holder of a new tennis trophy for Central Districts tennis.
Taranaki
outclassed Wanganui, Wairarapa and Manawatu in hot conditions to win the
Adidas Cup at the weekend.
On Saturday
morning Taranaki beat Manawatu 11-5 after winning the
singles 7-1 with only Ben Pollard losing. Manawatu struck back winning four
doubles but it wasn't enough with Taranaki taking out four.
On Saturday
afternoon Taranaki beat Wanganui 14-2 with Wanganui only
winning two women's singles .Pollard won his singles in the third set
tiebreaker. Jono Ussher, Cameron Koch and David White all won comfortably.
On Sunday
morning Taranaki played Wairarapa and the home side's threat quickly faded
with Marcus Daniel (NZ No 4) not playing and Matt Spooner having to withdraw
because of blisters. Pollard lost his singles 6-4 6-3 against Jono Hurley
-the player of the tournament - and lost a tight doubles with Koch 6-7 6-3
7-6. Ussher, Koch and White all scored easy wins; with the women -
Nicole Koch, Catherine Stevenson and Krystal Oakes all scoring comfortable
wins. The same results in the doubles and combines carried
Taranaki to a 13-3 win.
