Sandfords Manaia
continued its reign with the Soffe Cup on Saturday with an emphatic 15-1
demolition of Hooker Pacifc Pukekura. In the men's singles No 1 Jason Mills
defeated Zac Wills 6-3, 7-5 while Pukekura's Tony Radich balanced the ledger
with a 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 win over Thomas Luxton. No 3 and 4, Cameron Koch and
Alaister Murdoch defeated Ben Aves and Nick Steventon 6-2 and 6-2, 7-5
respectively.
The No 1 and 4 women's
matches were easy wins for Manaia with Nicole Koch and Davina Mills hardly
getting out of first gear against Linda Reid and Jeanette Harding. Aleisha
Ford had another three set match against Donna Thorne while Cindy Death had
a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kirsten Adam.
Going into the doubles
with a 7-1 lead, Manaia was only tested in one other match. The top men's
combination, Mills and Luxton dropped the first set 5-7 before winning the
last two 7-6, 7-6.
In the WiIson Trophy,
Okaiawa defeated Huatoki 9-7 at Hawera. Both teams are promoted to the Soffe
Cup next season.
In the Sumpter Trophy,
there were no semifinals and finals. Inglewood defeated Okaiawa 10-6 at
Inglewood to gain the most points in round robin play and win the trophy.
