Alesha Ford (
Manaia) helped Central Districts under 14 girls' tennis team to finish
second in the National Teams Event at Vodafone Tennis Park in Auckland last
week. Playing at no 2 in the 4 person team, Ford had 1 loss and seven wins
in the five rounds of singles and doubles.
In the doubles
she teamed up with Emma Macleod (Wanganui).
Central
Districts lost 2-4 to Northern in the final, improving on their fourth
placing last year.
In the first
four rounds they beat Canterbury 5-1, beat Southern 4-2, lost to Eastern
Districts 2-4 and beat Auckland 4-2.
In the
consolation singles in the National Hardcourt Champs the previous week,
Ford had four wins and lost in the final to Christine Voss (North Harbour).
In the main
event Ford ( the 9th seed) had one singles win.
In the doubles
Ford and Rosie Bird ( the third seeds) lost in the quarterfinals to Emily
Fanning and Leah Woods ( Rangiora).
Taranaki was
represented by Jordan Fleming ( Manaia) in the Central Districts under 14
boys' team who played at no 2.. They finished seventh in the eight team
competition having wins over Wellington 4-2 and Auckland 4-2. They lost to
Waikato 1-5 and Eastern Districts 0-6.
Fleming
recorded two wins and five losses.
