The Taranaki Tennis Association endorsed five nominations for various categories of the 2003 Taranaki Sportsperson of the Year awards.

The Taranaki Tennis team were nominated for the Senior Sports Team category.  This team won all representative matches played and successfully defended the Christie Cup.

The Manaia Soffe Cup Team were nominated for the Senior Sports Team category.  Manaia has won the Soffe Cup competition for four consecutive years.

Hayden Joblin was nominated for the Junior Male category.  Hayden represented New Zealand, against Australia, in the 12 and under test match, was the Central Districts Primary School Champion (14 and under), was a member of the Central Districts 14 and under Rep team which finished 3rd in the nationals and was selected for the HEADTM Team Elite International Program for 18 and under.  Unfortunately, Hayden's nomination was declined by the committee of Sport Taranaki appointees because he did not fit their criteria of 12-19 years (Hayden is 11).  Whilst the Sport Taranaki committee acknowledged that Hayden's achievements were excellent, and made all the more exceptional by his young age, they refused to accept Hayden's nomination, despite solid campaigning from Taranaki Tennis.  The Sport Taranaki committee acknowledged that the minimum age of 12 was set for no compelling reason.

John Salisbury was nominated for the Coach category.  John is part of the coaching team for Hayden Joblin as well as many other successful juniors within the Taranaki region.

Garth Savage was nominated by the St Josephs (Hawera) club in the category of Volunteer/Administrator for his work within their club.  Garth is a past administrator for both Taranaki Tennis Association and South Taranaki Tennis Association.
