This
weekend close to 70 tennis players will descend on New Plymouth to play in
the Taranaki Tennis Association's annual Taranaki Junior Open.
Players are
coming from as far away as Manawatu, Wanganui and Auckland.
Of the
68 entries received so far, the players who are expected to dominate in the
boys' singles are: 18s - Jordan Fleming (Manaia), 16s - Jacob Gopperth
(Manaia) and the 14s Michael Lloyd (Manaia).
In the girls'
singles Georgia Hughson (Waiwaka) is expected to do well out of a field of
10; in the 12s Alice Caskey (Stratford), Rose Hughson (Waiwaka) and Michaela
Fleming (Manaia) should feature out of a field of 8.
Play is
centered at the Pukekura courts but Rotokare, Waiwaka and Huatoki are likely
to be used also. The finals should be played on Sunday at Pukekura.
