Following two years of the disappointment of making the finals but not securing victory, Pukekura this season made sure of Soffe cup victory overcoming Oakura 9-3 to take the win without having to play combines. It's only the third time in the last 20 years Pukekura have held the Soffe cup and team captain Kirsten Adam was visibly thrilled with the victory having played Soffe cup tennis for Pukekura for 14 of those 20 years.
Despite the score line there were some individually hard fought matches in the singles. Jaime Simpson from Oakura came out strong in the No1 men's match against Caleb Fleming and played shots from all areas of the court in a fiercely fought first set only losing narrowly 7-5. However Caleb Fleming's strength showed through to take the tie 7-5 6-3. The longest game amongst the singles was the three set battle between Pukekura's Mike Erb and Oakura's Brady Simpson lasting over 2.5 hours. Simpson looked in unbeatable form in the first taking the set 6-2 but Erb's persistence paid off winning the second set 6-3 to take the match to a third set. Simpson started strongly in the third and went up 5-2 but just couldn't find the formula to finish off the set with Erb coming back and winning 5 games in a row to secure the victory 7-5 in the third. The other two men's matches were shared evenly with Graeme Mitchell dominant over David Barnard 6-0 6-0 and Andrew Hood over Len Adamson 6-1 6-4.
In the No1 women's match it wasn't all one way traffic for Louise Waite who went into the final unbeaten but she did eventually secure victory over Miaana Walden 6-4 6-4. Nikayla Barnard battled hard to get the break on Oakura's Sue Oldfield to take the first set 6-4 then never looked back winning 6-4 6-2. Pukekura's Kirsten Adam and Oakura's Jackie Mitchell had a game of long rallies which went to Adam 6-3 6-4. Oakura pulled back one women's victory with Ana Spurdle who took 3 sets to wear down Pukekura's Linda Reid 4-6 6-3 6-3.
The match score after singles then favored Pukekura 6-2. Oakura started strongly in the doubles with a win to their top doubles pairing of Mitchell and Simpson 6-1 6-0 over Caleb Fleming and Sasha Milentijevic-Vague however this was to be the only victory they could muster. Pukekura's Barnard and Mat Garnham beat Brady Simpson and Matt Stringer 6-2 6-2 and both women's doubles went to Pukekura 7-5 6-2 and 6-4 6-0 to secure the 9-3 score line and mean no requirement to continue on to play mixed doubles.
