Saturday's
Soffe Cup games are the first games of the second round.
Competition
leaders Central Finance Rotokare are away to Hareb Deken Oakura. It is
hard to predict match -ups with many players being unavailable this close to
Christmas but likely match-ups are -
Rotokare's No 1
Ben Pollard will play Steven Novak or Josh Walden, with Aaron Hine being
unavailable. The No 2 match ups could be Chris Popata against Walden
or John Hardie Boys.
In the women's
singles, Rotokare's No 1 Kelly Toa will play Leah Fletcher and Leith Atkins
will play Becky Bruckner; results could go either way.
Rotokare should
take out the tie with their superior men's line -up crucial in the mixed
doubles. In the first round Rotokare won 11-5.
Second placed
Hooker Pacific Pukekura should be in for a big win against wooden spooners
Waiwaka/Stratford/MIdhirst at Pukekura. The combined side lost 15-1 last
week to Oakura with their stongest line-up of the season. If they
field the same lineup as last week, in the top men's singles, Pukekura's
Michael Fleming will play Gavin Phelan and Zac Wills will play Michael
O'Sullivan with the Pukekura pair expected to have easy wins. In the
women's singles, Pukekura's Linda Reid and Donna Thorne are likely to face
Krystal Oakes and Jayden Bruce. In the first round, Reid beat Oakes in
the third set tie break so Oakes will want to even the score. In the
first round Pukekura won 12- 4 and could improve on that tomorrow.
McDonald Real
Estate Matapu are coming off a bye last week and have a tough task against
Sandfords Manaia at Matapu. Manaia are yet to have a win this season
and will be targeting this game to break the duck. Although Matapu won
11-5 in the first round, Manaia will have a stronger women's team this time
with Nicole Koch, Alesha Ford and possibly Irene Cruikshank in the line up.
In the women's singles Koch will face Jen White and Ford will play Helen
Kelly; both should be easy wins for Manaia. In the men's matches,
Jordan Fleming will play David White, who beat him easily the first round
and Michael Gates will play Rodney Perrett with Gates favoured.
AWE Huatoki
have the bye.
