University Games Tennis - Day 2
Sam Vinton-Boot (VIC) was impressive in making his way into the Men's singles
final. Vinton-Boot had a 9-1 win over Ryan Everiss (AKL) in the
quarter-final and then a 9-2 win over Andrew Kemp (AKL) in the semi-final.
Vinton-Boot will play No.2 seed, Blair O'Brien. O'Brien (AKL) had to work harder
to overcome Vincent Baylis (Massey) 9-4 and then Zac Wills (VIC) 9-5.
Later on Friday, they will clash again in the Men's doubles final. Kemp
and O'Brien defeated Baylis/Ryan Stockman (Massey) 9-4 in the semi-final to set
up a match against Vinton-Boot/Wills, who won their semi-final 9-3 over Matt
Cutfield/Nick Hammond (AKL).
The top seeds are also prevailing in the Women's matches. Top seed Rebecca Lee (AUT) got away to a sluggish start in her quarter-final before finishing strongly to beat Samantha Wong (AKL) 9-2. Lee was then more clinical in her semi-final, despatching Hanna Baxter (VIC) 9-1. No.2 seed Wendy Owen (AUT) had an easy 9-0 quarter-final win over Kelsy Smith (Massey) but then had to use her greater experience to overcome Aditi Rai (AKL) 9-5 in the semi-final. In doubles, Lee and Owen must be favourites to take the title when they play Rai and Wong. Both pairings won their semi-finals, 9-0.
