The third of Soffe Cup will hit the courts this Saturday. The opening two rounds haven’t really produced too many surprises but that could all change this Saturday.
South Combined will do battle with Huatoki in Hawera. Both have a win and a loss under their belts and will be looking to keep their seasons on the positive side of the ledger. Huatoki will be looking for strong performances from stalwarts like Chris Wilson and Ross Lilley, whilst South see the first match of their No.1 Hamish Mead. Players with experience of playing on different kinds of surfaces and how to play on them will be an advantage. South Combined will be looking to get back on track, having lost to Rotokare narrowly last week.
It has been a tough season for Stratford so far and they will be looking to have a few more close matches go their way as they take on Rotokare at Stratford. Rotokare has been building over the last two weeks and will be looking to continue their form improvement.
Perhaps the most intriguing matchup will take place between Pukekura and Oakura. Having played with an under strength team against South Combined, Oakura emerged last week as a team to watch, when they put paid to Huatoki so convincingly last weekend. Pukekura is unbeaten as yet but will know, if Oakura is at full strength, that they will probably face their toughest challenge to date.
In the Wilson trophy, Oakura will host South Combined, Pukekura will be at home to Rotokare and Waitara will host Inglewood.
In the Sumpter trophy, South Combined will host Oakura in Manaia and Huatoki will be at home to Pukekura.
