The second week of Soffe Cup did not disappoint with some close match-ups.  Oakura hosted Okaiawa, Pukekura travelled away to Inglewood and Rotokare were at home to Huatoki.

Oakura managed to get the better of Okaiawa 11-5 overall.

In the singles Okaiawa's men dominated while Oakura's women did the same. This left the score even at four matches apiece.  Sue Oldfield battled to an impressive win over Megan Small 4-6 6-3 6-3.  In the doubles, Oakura's men managed to overcome their singles defeats to win both ties.  Oakura's Len Adamson and Gavin Stanley managed to scramble a win over Okaiawa's Vince Baylis and Grant Morris 1-6 6-4 7-6(10-6).  Oakura's women continued their dominance to claim the two doubles as well.  This gave Oakura an 8-4 lead heading into the combines.  Oakura won three out of the four combines to claim a clean victory.  Whilst the final margin appears comfortable, Okaiawa were competitive all day and could easily reverse this loss on another day.

Rotokare won easily over Huatoki 13-3.  Huatoki's Josh Wormald and Shane Douglas managed to win their singles over Luis Silva and Shane Devlin.  Unfortunately, there was only one more win added to the Huatoki total during the rest of the day.  Huatoki would have to feel a little hard done by, losing 3 consecutive 3 set matches by narrow margins.  Huatoki's Sophie Robertson lost to Karen Cranston 2-6 6-3 6-2.  Jae Laurence succumbed to Rotokare's hard hitting Alex Macesic 6-1 1-6 7-6(2).  Macesic then combined with Chantelle Peters to battle out another Rotokare win 4-6 6-2 7-6(2).  Huatoki were in the tie but could not convert opportunities into wins on the score sheet.

The last matchup of the weekend was Pukekura versus Inglewood, in Inglewood. This was an extremely one-sided affair with Pukekura running out winners 15-1.

Inglewood's Maria Spurdle and Beccie Atkins managed to prevent a Pukekura clean sweep by winning the women's top doubles over Nikayla Barnard and Ella Rogers 7-5 1-6 7-6(4).

Next weekend will see Stratford at home to Okaiawa, Huatoki welcoming Pukekura, Inglewood playing Oakura at Midhirst and Rotokare will have the bye.
