Taranaki interclub will continue for all three divisions of A grade this weekend.
Huatoki will be hosting South Combined. With two of the courts at Huatoki being upgraded with new Turf, the matches will be played at the club and at New Plymouth Boys’ High School. Having struggled for form earlier in the season, Huatoki will be looking to play themselves closer to a playoff position. It will depend on who is available to play in the top positions for South Combined. Abby Ross has recently been confirmed in the U14 Central Team, meaning she doesn’t have to travel to Wellington for the playoff games. Similarly, Hamish Mead will be available if he is not required in Wellington for his club. If both these players turn out for South Combined, it will make the task in front of Huatoki a great deal more difficult.
Rotokare will be travelling down to take on Stratford. Stratford has
struggled this season to trouble the other teams in the topflight competition.
With Will Roberts available for Rotokare, it will once again be a difficult task
for Stratford’s men. Stratford may be able to make more inroads in the
women’s matches but will need players like Courtney Tippett and Lyn Stanners to
play at their absolute best.
Pukekura will be playing against Oakura at home. This is a tie that could be close if Oakura field their strongest team. Unfortunately, this has rarely happened. Pukekura’s women should once again be the difference for the club. Pukekura’s number 1 woman Nikayla Barnard, has recently been named as a direct entry into the U17 Central Tennis Team. It seems likely she can use this positive news to fuel the way she chooses to play this Saturday.
In the Wilson trophy, South Combined will host Oakura, Rotokare will be at home
to Pukekura and Inglewood will play host to Waitara.
In the Sumpter Trophy, South Combined will play Huatoki at Manaia and Oakura will host Pukekura.
