Congratulations to Andrew Baylis and Bruce Cleland who both were made life members of the Taranaki Tennis Association at last week's Annual General Meeting.

Both men are long-serving stalwarts of the game both off and on the court.

Andrew has been a TTA Board Member for 25 years, serving as chairman for 20 of those.  During this time he helped attract Davis Cup events to both New Plymouth and Hawera from 2008-2011.  Under his watch Taranaki successfully bid for the 2009 University Games,  with Andrew as tournament director. Andrew has been tournament director/controller for the Taranaki Open for the past 17 years.  Andrew hails from Okaiawa Tennis Club and was made a life member of the club in 2008 after many years of service as a coach and president.  He also won the volunteer award at the Sport Taranaki Taranaki Sports Awards in 2011 and a Paddy Manu South Taranaki Sportsman of the Year award in 2012.
 

Bruce has been a TTA board member since 1989, serving four of those as president.  He has also been a selector and manager for rep teams during this period.  He acted as delegate for the Central Districts Tennis Board from 1994-2003 including five years as Chairman.  Bruce was a memebr of Toko Tennis Club from 1971-1981, a Douglas Tennis Club member from 1985-1987 and has been a member of Stratford Tennis Club since 1988.  He has been president of Stratford for 25 of the last 32 years, running tournaments, organising teams, generating sponsorship and renewing club facilities.  He also played a central role in the formation of Stratford's TET MultiSport Centre and has chaired the building committee since 2001.  He is a life member of this committee. Bruce was named both the Taranaki and Tennis Central volunteer of the year in 2014.
