Soffe Cup
tennis resumes tomorrow after a break last weekend due to senior and junior
rep matches.
All the matches
are being played in New Plymouth in this final week of the first round.
The match of
the round is the clash of the top two unbeaten teams, Central Finance
Rotokare and Hooker Pacific Pukekura at Rotokare. Rotokare's No 1 Ben
Pollard plays Michael Fleming which should be a good spectacle.
Fleming has not been tested this season and Pollard has only had one loss,
to Huatoki's Jonno Ussher.
The No 2 clash
will be Rotokare's Chris Popata against Zac Wills ,(if he is over his hand
injury), or Dennis Reid with Popata favoured.
In the top two
women's singles, the winners are hard to pick but Rotokare should have the
edge. Rotokare's Kelly Toa will play Linda Reid and Leith Atkins will
play Donna Thorne. Overall this is an even tie as Rotokare have
stronger men than Pukekura but Pukekura's women are stronger than Rotokare.
It is likely to come down to the superior mixed doubles combinations.
Sandfords
Manaia are likely to be at full strength for the first time this season when
they travel to Huatoki. The two No 2s, Jason Mills and Alesha Ford
should be making their first appearances of the season. Mills should
be too good for Jordan Stayt while Ford is likely to play Saori Han, with
Han favoured. The No 1 men's clash should be Huatoki's Jono Ussher playing
Jordan Fleming and Lucy Barlow playing Nicole Koch, both should be easy wins
for Huatoki. Huatoki should come out on top with their experienced women's
line-up right through to No 4.
Janice Taylor,
Chris Wilson, Robyn Hinton or Megan Walsh will fill the remaining two spots
and they will face Ginny Death and Maree Gopperth.
The combined
Waiwaka/Stratford/Midhirst side have not had a win and play Hareb Deken
Oakura at Waiwaka. The top men's clashes are likely to be
Waiwaka/Stratford/Midhirst's' David Chamberlain playing Aaron Hine and Bruce
Cleland or Rhys Sutton playing Josh Walden. Oakura are odds on to take
those two matches while they look too strong in the women's matches also.
Taranaki reps Leah Fletcher and Becky Bruckner take on Krystal Oakes and
Jayden Bruce.
It should be a
comfortable win to Oakura.
McDonald Real
Estate Matapu have the bye.
