All Soffe Cup matches were scheduled for South Taranaki on Saturday and the rain stayed away to allow all but one game to be completed.
Hareb Deken Motors Oakura had to fight hard for its 9-7 win over Sandfords Manaia at Manaia . Manaia looks to be on the comeback trail after missing out on a semi-final spot last season.
Although Oakura were without Josh Walden and Leah Fletcher on Saturday, they have gained the valuable services of another rep player, Alesha Ford from Manaia.  She was beaten 6/3,6/1 by Manaia's No 1 Nicole Koch. Oakura's women won the rest of the singles, At No 2, Sue Oldfield beat Irene Cruikshank 7/6, 6/1, Becky Bruckner beat Helen Johnston in the No 3 match while Miaana Walden beat Shinae Bailey by the same score.  Manaia had Cameron Koch in the No 1 spot and beat John Hardie Boys 4/6,6/2,7/6. Koch did not play last season due to injury and he will be vital to the team's success.  Manaia won two other singles matches, No 3 and 4 Michael Gates and Alaister Murdoch beat Len Adamson and Tei Walden respectively. Oakura's No 2 Graham Mitchell had an easy win over Taranaki B rep Jacob Gopperth.
With the scores at 4-4 after the singles, Oakura gained the advantage by winning three out of four doubles. They won both women's matches and the top men's match. The mixed doubles were shared 2-2.
The win puts Oakura in second place on 28 points, five behind leaders Rotokare on 33 while Manaia are in fourth spot on 20 points,  0.5 behind Hooker Pacific Pukekura.
