Maureen Whiting comments on her participation in the ITF World Championships:

"It was a great week for me with The Masters Award and playing in the I.T.F World championships for the Kitty Godfree Cup. Our team finished with the world ranking of 6th out of 12 countries a fair ranking seeing New Zealand does not often play in these tournaments. Other countries have everything paid for but the NZ individual has to pay all expenses themselves. Therefore I was very grateful for help from the TSB Trust and North Taranaki Vets.

Individually I lost my singles to South Africa and only one doubles against Germany.  My partner for most of the doubles was Jillian Roberts, mother of Rotokare Soffe Cup player, Mike Roberts."

Maureen also won the Masters section of the Taranaki Sportsperson of the Year award.
